FAQs

I'm sure you have a lot of questions; if there's anything I haven't included here, please reach out to me!

Q: How do you decide what to paint?
A: I don't paint all of what I see; there will be photographers to capture every minute detail, I am there to capture the love. That means taking certain things out that do not enhance the feeling of the piece, and adding in other things to take it to another level.

Q: What can we expect our painting to look like?
A: I generally try to capture a likeness of the bride and groom and the overall beauty of the day. I like to incorporate natural elements such as meadows and trees that may not be present on location. My style is best suited for outdoor weddings in nature or in front of old buildings, or inside an old building; this allows me to give you a more timeless feeling painting that I will enjoy painting for you.

Q: What made you decide on watercolors and gouache for live wedding painting?
A: There are many reasons! Watercolors allow me to work much quicker than oils, and I love the look. I have found most wedding painters use acrylics for live wedding paintings because of their quick dry time, but I haven't been able to get the look I love from acrylics, and oils take too long. With watercolors and gouache I'm able to get the light airy ethereal look that I aim for, and the drying time is much shorter so that I'm able to finish a painting in about half the amount of time.

Q: Will we be able to take our painting home the night of our wedding?
A: I will be working on location at your wedding, but I will not be finishing your painting on location. My goal is to make your painting a timeless piece of art, which means it takes time. After I am finished painting at your wedding I will take your painting back to my studio to work on for another three to eight hours depending upon size. It will then be sealed and ready to be picked up or shipped within eight to twelve weeks.

Q: Who will be in the painting?
A: I like to focus on the bride and groom; this allows for much greater attention to detail. However, if you are interested in adding more people into your painting I am open to the idea, we would just need to discuss the details before the wedding date to make sure I can give you the painting you've been dreaming of.

Q: Will you travel for my wedding?
A: I prefer to stay within two hours of my home of Bucks County PA, but I am willing to travel, including internationally, depending upon the location, as long as flights and accommodations are covered.

Q: How much control do we have over what our painting will look like?
A: A good deal! Once you've looked at my work and have decided you like my general style and have booked me to paint on your special day we will go over the details of your painting.  At least 2 weeks before the wedding we will go over these details:
During which part of your wedding do you want the painting to be from? (The sooner I am able to get a picture of you to paint from the sooner I am able to paint, so I would suggest using a first look, ceremony or pictures taken early on in the day/night with the photography team.)
Where exactly will the painting scene be?
What style are you looking for? I love to incorporate a sense of whimsy, so let me know if you'd like me to move in that direction, or if you're looking for something else.

Q: What do we need to provide for you to be able to paint?
A: I will need a 6x6' area in a temperature controlled room with a power outlet and running water not too far away. I will also need food and drinks (if you're serving wine I'm a white wine kind of girl!)

Q: Do you need access to the venue beforehand?
A: Yes please! This will depend upon where your wedding is taking place- if the venue is within driving distance I would like to meet up with you around two weeks before the wedding in order to go over details. If I am flying in for the wedding I would need to go to the venue the day before the wedding in order to finalize details.

Q: How do we book with you?
A: Send me a message through my "Contact" page. Once we've gone over all of your questions and concerns for the big day and I have determined your date is available you'll need to put down a $500 non-refundable retainer fee for your wedding date to be reserved. This will go towards the total cost of the painting.

Q: Why should we have a live wedding painter?
A: The especially cool part about my job is that I not only get to make a beautiful family heirloom, but you and your guests will also get to experience the process of watching it come to life. Guests are not only welcome to watch my process, but ask questions and interact with me along the way.

Q: What is your availability like?
A: Since my full time job is being a stay at home mom it typically takes me 8-12 weeks to complete a painting; with this being the case I only take on one to two paintings per month. I know there are other live wedding painters who book up to 70 paintings per year, but my total is closer to 16-24, so it's best to try to get your date in my calendar as soon as possible!
